What is dry needling?
Dry needling uses a very fine, sterile, single-use needle inserted into a targeted area of muscle, often a myofascial trigger point.
Trigger points are sensitive, tight spots in muscle that can be linked to pain, muscle tightness and restricted movement. At Kinisi, dry needling is one tool your chiropractor may use alongside hands-on care and exercise, with the aim of easing muscle tension and helping you move more comfortably. Responses vary, and it is not suitable for everyone.

Assessment first
Every new patient starts with a 45-minute Initial Consultation, so Leo can understand your history and movement before deciding whether dry needling is appropriate.
Combined chiropractic care
As a dry needling chiropractor in Newcastle, Leo can combine needling with chiropractic care, soft tissue release or Shockwave Therapy where suitable.

Nervous about needles?
That's common. Nothing happens until you understand it and agree to it.

- The needle is very fine, much thinner than a typical injection needle.
- Leo explains expected sensations, such as a brief prick, dull ache or muscle twitch, and possible risks like temporary soreness or bruising, before starting.
- You can ask questions, pause or decline at any time, and other options can be discussed.

Dry needling FAQs
Do I need an initial consultation?
Yes, if you are new to Kinisi. Dedicated dry needling sessions in our online booking are for existing patients, so please book the 45-minute Initial Consultation first. This lets Leo assess you and check whether dry needling is appropriate.
What does dry needling involve?
A very fine, sterile, single-use needle is inserted into a targeted area of muscle, such as a trigger point, usually for a short time. Leo explains the purpose, expected sensations and potential risks before starting.
Will it hurt?
Most people feel a brief prick, a dull ache or a muscle twitch. Mild soreness afterwards is common and usually eases within a day or two. Everyone's experience is different, and you can ask to stop at any time.
Is it right for everyone?
No. Dry needling is not suitable for everyone and may need extra care or be avoided in some situations, such as bleeding disorders, blood-thinning medication or pregnancy. Leo reviews your history first and discusses other options if needed. Results vary.
How much does it cost and can I claim?
The Initial Consultation is 45 minutes and $150. We accept major private health funds and you may be able to claim under your extras cover, so check with your fund. WorkCover, DVA and EPC plans are also accepted.
